The Woman Who Came from Smoke
Draft 3

“You didn’t think he had a knife, huh?” Lucilla asked grinning up at him.
“I had no bloody idea, Frank a blade,” Charon said.
“Well, Benjamin always tells me to carry a knife,” she said.
“Benjamin, the man who can summon knives from his body?” Charon asked with Lucilla shaking her head yes. “Of course, he does,” he said with both of them laughing.
They found a taxi a few blocks down the road with Charon paying the nice man to the place where Daisy was staying for the night. It just so happens to be the same place Frank was staying as well with her giving him a good night. A good night for him not so much for her, Charon knew before they even arrived at the apartment.
“Here will be fine,” Charon said a block away from the building.
Lucilla stepped out of the car telling Stanley to scout ahead of them and let her know where Daisy was at. The cat meow jumping from her arms dashing down the road with Charon itching his old face watching the car pull away.
“They might have guns this time,” Lucilla said with them walking to the closest alleyway.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Charon said. “You think you can climb the fire escape?”
“Yeah, I can do it,” she said.
“And you are going to be super safe,” Charon told her.
“I will,” Lucilla said feeling Stanley’s eyes falling on to Daisy's face with Frank behind her making love to her. The word love was used lightly by the fact of Daisy’s dead face. She looked dead at Stanley not sure if she saw the cat before or not.
“She is on the fifth floor in the apartment closes to us,” Lucilla said. “Being fuck by Frank it looked like.”
“Oh God, let’s go save her then,” Charon said heading for the apartment building. He was going in the front door while she climbs the fire escape planning to find a new cat for her troop back home. Lucilla dashed from Charon side as he tips his head turning his face into a new one with magic. It was a hard spell to pull off, and it would only stay cast for a short time, but long enough for Charon. He walked right past the guards at the door with a wink and smile.
Lucilla sat outside right outside of the room where Daisy was getting used. It could be called rape, Lucilla knew, not like the woman had much of choice in the matter, but after a while, it was nothing new to Daisy. The candlelight hid most of the room keeping the shadows at bay, and what shadows were there they seem to be weeping at sight. It was nothing new for them either.
Lucilla stepped out the sight of the window with Stanley at the other window. She crawled over to him smiling and placing her hand against the cool glass. She tried to lift it up, but the window was locked. She sighed sitting back in the cold wind waiting for the bitter old man to get up to the room.
“Come on, come on,” she whispered to herself seeing the shadow in the door move. Stanley stared hard as Charon came into the room like there was nothing stopping him. He didn’t open the door. He must have used some sleep to step through the wood.
He opens the window with Lucilla crawling in and his long bony finger over his lip. He pointed to behind a couch for her to hide and she rushes over there follow by Stanley. The pitiful moans from the bedroom made Charon shake his head. It should have been a red flag to Frank that the lovely shadow woman wasn’t enjoying him inside her, but then again, maybe that was the point.
He moved to the other side of the door not looking in, it was wrong to see the woman in this way and waited for the cold wind to crawl to the back of Frank’s body. It didn’t take long before the mob boss growled about the window being open. He stopped his act, pulling his gun from his coat, and slowly stepped out into the darkness of the other room.
He looked around, but he could see a damn thing in the darkness. Charon grin kicking him right between the legs where his cock was still hard and wet. The man lets a scream of pain dropping to his knees and letting the pistol go. Before he could react Charon punch him in the face while holding the back of his head. Frank’s nose turns into a nice fountain of red leaking onto Charon’s hand. He didn’t stop hitting the man until a couple of teeth drop from his mouth. He drops him on the floor leaving him there couching and crying.
“Dirty bastard stabbing me,” Charon told him, knocking on the bedroom door. “Ma’am?”
He stepped into the room to find the blanket wrap around her body and a gun pointing dead to him. He raised his hands not moving but said, “You might want to lower the gun and get dress.”
“He did this because I help you,” she told him, “and after he was done, he was going to give me to a few of his men.”
“Well, looks like we saved you from that horrible fate.”
“What is going to happen when he wakes up?” Daisy asked. “I still have his mark on me. He can still come after me.”
“Yeah, you want to kill him then?”
“We can’t do that,” she yelled. “The whole family will come after us.”
“Right, so we can’t kill him, but you can’t be free as long as he is around,” Charon said. He thumbs back at the door. “Guess, we should leave then.”
“I can’t be free,” Daisy screamed at him.
“I can help with that,” Lucilla said sticking her head into the room.
“How?”
“Can I?” Lucilla asked Charon.
“I don’t care, clown,” he told her.
Lucilla smiles big pulling away from the door and stepping over to Frank on the floor. Charon came out of the room quickly followed by Daisy asking, “What are you doing? You can’t kill him.”
“I wasn’t going to, you’ll see,” Lucilla said glancing at Stanley on the couch cleaning his paws. She bends over, who was Frank trying to wake up, or breath through the blood pouring from his nose. She reached petting his black hair like she was his sad mother because he was hurt so badly. Before Daisy could protest the action, Lucilla stood to show a white and orange cat lying on the floor where Frank was moments before. The cat stood looking at Lucilla as she held out her arms and he jumped into them.
Stanley meowed with Lucilla telling him, “Oh be quiet, he is your brother now.”
The cat looked at Stanley who said nothing more sitting on the couch.
“There,” Charon said, “you can come with us now if you want.”
“You turn him into a cat,” Daisy said.
“It’s my gift,” Lucilla told her.
“And I can go where ever I want?” She asked looking at Charon who was nodding yes.
“But I hope you come with us.”
“To the Circus?”
“It can be home,” Lucilla said. “It is ours.”
“And you are taking Frank?”
“Yes, I am taking Frank with me,” Lucilla said. “He is mine now.”
“And he will never be normal again?”
“Nope,” Lucilla said with a childish smile. “He is a cat now and forever.”
“Now and forever?”
“Yup.”
“Would like to get dress?” Charon asked her.
“Right,” she said with a nod, “I should get some clothes on.”
They climbed down the fire escape and quickly head to the train station where a tall man with a long black braided beard, one blue and green eye waited for them. His body was powerful looking from the hours he spent working out, and his gaze was strong. He wore three rings, one a skull, one a cross, and one a snake, each one of them magical in their own right.
Lucilla took off running once she saw the man hugging him tightly with the man smiling like a lost father. He grabbed her picking her up saying how much he missed her. She kissed him on the cheek and then placed back on the ground.
“Meet Frank,” Lucilla said pointing to the new cat at her feet.
“Nice to meet you, Frank,” the man said with the wink of his eye. “How many is that now?”
“Thirteen, sir.”
“As only as Frank works in your act, I have no problem with him being here,” he said.
“Sir,” Charon said stepping out of the way, so he could see Daisy, “I would like you to meet Daisy Thundernight.”
“Nice to me you madam, I am Azrael Cold, the Ring Master,” he said taking her hand and kissing the top of it. “And I would like you to join us?”
Daisy nodded.
“I’m sorry, my dear, but I must hear you say it.”
“I would like to join the Azrael Circus of the Bizarre.”
He stuck out his hand and said, “Welcome to the show.”
