Dear Reader,
I have been having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning as of late. I lay there staring out of the window looking at the sun welcoming me to a new day, and I don’t want to move. I’m not sure why. I’m not sure there is a reason for it at all but in those moments when my bed is far better than anything else going on in my life, I think of what Marcus Aurelius said, “At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: I have to go to work — as a human being.” Or in my case, I have to go to work – as a writer. So, I drag myself out of my bed, make me some tea, and sit down in front of this screen. Today, on this morning, I felt the need to write to you. I need a friend to hear my words for what else does a writer need?
Marcus Aurelius told me to get out bed. He wrote those words for me and me alone. Although it was thousands of years ago, but they were meant for me. I hope you understand every novel, story or tale is written with you in mind, the reader. It is a letter to you and you alone. I hope that brings you some solace on lonely days it does to me. Next time you read something you should think about it being written solely for you, it might change your world.
Speaking of change, I am at the moment changing things in my life. Not sure much my life but in the way which you get to read my letters. I am moving all my stories over to writer’s café (http://www.writerscafe.org/CLCurrie) for the time being. I am doing this because it will be far easier for you to read my stories and most of all go back to any part if you must. While at the same time I am going to keep this blog going and still post some work on here, but the work, I will be posting will be more of my thoughts, more of these kinds of letters. I do not have any set schedule for when the letters will come out, but Sundays and Wednesdays will still be the days I will release stories.
I hope you don’t mind the move so much. I hope, it is easier for you to read my work being on the other form but if it is not then let me know. I still love my blog and want to keep it going.
As for other things going on in my life, I’m getting a new job, which might be nice or not, I don’t know yet. I have a feeling I’m going to need to go back to school for two years for something more practical. It is not something I wish to do but something I must do, that is life, I guess.
The other thing I am still working on is sending my work out to people. I have yet to have anything come back other than no’s, but I’m looking at every no as a stepping stone to a yes. I think I need to fail for a while with my writing before something happens with it. That is an odd thing to say huh? Very stoic of me, don’t you think?
I say this because I fear if I made it right now, right at this moment, it would go to my head. Also, any money I would make for selling my work would go right out of the window. Okay, not out the window but into my stomach and adding more books on my shelves. I have no more room on my shelves. I don’t need more books, but they keep showing up.
I want to make it. I need to make it but failing it also good for the soul. If I can fail and still write, still work toward a goal then that goal is a true one for me. At least, that how I see failing. I don’t know, maybe, I’m just trying to validate my failures.
I do have one great goal in mind, maybe, it is more of a dream. But I want to build a website for my stories where I can bring in artists to draw work for me and someday, do some kind of animation for my stories as well. I’m also, right now as I write this to you, working on a short radio drama which might come out. The name of this drama is ‘Lucifer’s Scribe,’ where a writer finds a magical pen, but the pen is the Devil’s tool and as you can image horror things happen to him. I don’t know if it will be any good because I’m doing all of it myself. I know, I don’t have the voice for radio, but I need to practice getting the writing down for radio dramas in the hopes one day I can bring in other people. It is a little dream of mine that I have had for a while and if you wish to help then, by all means, let me know.
Outside of what I have told about my life nothing much has changed. I’m working out more and working more. I have been writing a lot more and reading as much as I can because I no longer have school to take up so much of my time. I do find it odd that people feel they stop learning when they leave school. Why is that? You should always be reading, and you should always be learning, why stop it?
Well, my friend, I’m off to write some more, and I will speak to you soon. I re-watched ‘The End of the Tour’ which I recommend the movie to you. Here is a lovely clip for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VdAc71SRBk
With a Handshake,
Chase
