Your Lucky Day in Hell Part 6

Your Lucky Day in Hell
Draft_2
Part 6
By: Chase L. Currie

“Like Gabriel from the Bible?” Paige asked as she followed Thanatos through the snow cover forest. A forest in which she couldn’t understand how she got into or where it came from, but the more puzzling thing about the forest or her was she was not cold. The snow was thick on the green trees and around her boots, but she was warm like laying on the hill during a summer day. It was odd, but then again everything was odd here.
She was walking beside a tall man with black wings and horns coming from his head. She shrugged and tossed the question of why she was warm, out of her mind. It didn’t matter because she wouldn’t understand it anyway.
                “The very one,” Thanatos said.
“But you are a god,” she said, “how does that work?”
Thanatos smiled and told her, “We are not real gods, just angels who didn’t pick a side during the Fallen War and stayed in the world of morals. They made us into gods and goddess; we just didn’t stop them.” He laughed to himself. “We got a lot of free stuff that way.”
“We are in the Underworld,” she pointed out, “how can an angel be here?”
“Did Hades not tell you?” Thanatos asked. “This is not the Underworld but the Other Side.”
“Like the Up Side Down?” Paige question.
“No,” he said, “but great show. The Other Side is like Eflame where all imagination is alive. Here things are born from the mind of artists to a degree. It’s actually more like an artist looks into this world.” He put his hand under his chin lifting his head up a little and then said, “So maybe, there is the Up Side Down somewhere around here.”
“So, does that mean,” Paige asked, but the drum roll of a voice cut her question off.
“TIMBER!” And the tree crashing following the word landing right in from of them both.
Paige stares at the large tree lying in front of her knowing if she were a few steps faster it would have hit her.
“Hey, we didn’t die,” Thanatos said looking down the length of the tree trying to find the person who cut the beast down.
“Ah, sorry about that friend,” a tall man with a long red beard down pass his chest carrying a large ax and wearing clothes like a lumberjack said stepping on top of the tree. The amazing things weren’t his body but was his face. His eyes were a deep blue mixing together like a pool of water and everything else about him was the very definition of masculine. It was as if God made men after this person.
“Didn’t see you guys there,” he said stepping over the tree holding his large hand for Thanatos to shake. A golden halo hung around his wrist, both of his wrists.
Thanatos took his hand shaking it. “It’s all good,” the god of death said. “We could have died, but we didn’t which is nice.”
“Very nice,” he said turning to face Paige and hugging her hard. “Persephone, you are back.”
She hugged him back because it wrongs not too.
“Hm,” Thanatos said tapping him on his shoulder and shaking his head no.
“Oh,” the man said putting her down. “Still can’t remember huh?”
“No,” she said looking down at her boots. “Who are you?”
“Right, I am Gabriel,” he said with a big smile. “Come let’s go to someplace warm and where we can sit.”
They followed him through the snow deep into the woods to a small cabin coughing smoke up its chimney. The cabin was simple with a small table, a few chairs, an iron stove, and a few books around the one room. There was no bed, but she got the feeling he never slept there anyway. Gabriel knocked the snow off his boots and pointed to the chairs ordering, “Sit.”
                And they did so.
“Tea or beer?” he asked them both.
                “Tea for me,” Thanatos said.
                “Beer,” Paige said.
“That’s my girl,” Gabriel said turning around holding a warm cup of tea and a bottle of beer. He walked over to the table sitting the cup down in front of Thanatos and went to do the same for Paige but knock over the bottle into her lap. She jumped out of her chair looking down at her wet pants.
                “I’m so sorry,” Gabriel said.
“No, its fine,” Paige said cleaning herself off as well as she could.
“Let me get a towel,” Gabriel rush trying to find towel knocking her over as she did. “Oh man, I’m so sorry again.”
Paige sat on her ass looking up at him trying to stay calm. “It is okay,” she said taking his hand as he pulled her to her feet.
“Please, sit before I do more damage,” Gabriel said with a red face.
“It is fine,” she smiled at him sitting down, “accidents happen.”
“If you say so,” Gabriel said as Thanatos drank his tea not saying a word. The High Angel sat down between both them wearing a sweet smile. “So, what brings both of you here?”
“I want my memory back,” Paige said.
Gabriel nodded sitting back drinking his beer, shrugged, and said, “I can’t help.”
“What? Why?” She asked looking over at Thanatos who didn’t say a word.
“I don’t have it,” he said.
“So, this is a waste of time then,” she growls.
“I guess so,” Gabriel said, “if you feel that way.”
“Do you know how has it?”
                “I do.”
                “Who is it?” She asked.
“It won’t matter,” he said sitting his empty bottle on the table.
“What you mean? Of course, it matters,” she said. “It’s my memory.”
“It is,” Gabriel agrees, “but with great wisdom, comes great sorrow.”
“What the Hell does that mean?”
“It means, child,” he said leaning into her, “if you got it back then you would hate Hades.”
“Why? I thought I was trick to leave?” She questions.
“No, you were not,” he said, “but it is what everyone believes. I mean, for a while you made yourself believe it was the truth but that was after you lost your memory.” He picked up another beer open it and start to drink it. “You see you give Hypnos your memory to get back at your dark lover. He did not trick you into leaving; you did that on your own.”
“Why? Why did I do that?” She begged him.
                “I cannot tell you.”
                “Can’t or won’t?”
He drank his beer and rose his eyebrow.
“You’re a fucking asshole,” she hissed shooting to her feet. “You could help, but you are not. What kind of angel are you? You are an asshole.”
Gabriel smiled but didn’t say a word. Paige headed for the door and only stop when he asked, “If I told you would you forgive me?”
She looked at him and said, “Yes.”
“Would you forgive me if I didn’t tell you?”
                “No.”
“Sad,” he said looking over at Thanatos. “It was nice seeing you again, Persephone, I wish you luck.”
“Fuck you,” she barked at him rushing out into the bitter cold of the night.

(Writer’s Notes: You might be seeing a lot more of these notes on my blogs. It will give you an insight into what I have been thinking when it comes to writing my story. With that said, I have no idea what I’m doing in this story. I write a thousand or so words for the next part and then put the story away for a couple of days. I come back to it when I think about it and then add more. I’m not sure how or when this story is going to end, but I hope it is soon.
As for the part, you just read the only thing I knew I wanted to happen was Thanatos would take Paige to Gabriel, and the angel would not help her. She would leave alone in the snow moving her to the next place. It was the only plan I had walking into this act of the story.
When I started writing, I wanted the idea of forgiveness to play some role in meeting the High Angel. I believe, the story is leading me to where forgiveness will be the main point in the character of Paige or Hades, but I am not sure. Also, I didn’t want to come right out and say that’s what I was doing in this part of the tale, which the story itself. It is why Gabriel spills the beer on Paige and then knocks her down, in those moments she forgives him for those actions. It was a part of his plan. A plan which he seems not to want to tell me about and will find out with you.
I’m not sure I’m a fan of this story, but it keeps knocking on my door asking me to finish it. The texts wish to know what happens to Paige and I can’t blame it. I suppose there is also the added fact that Paige is based off a friend of mine and somehow, somewhere in my mind it feels wrong leaving her trap in a snowy forest. I feel I must guide her to the end of the tale, where ever that may be.
The problem has arisen that I’m not sure how to end the story. I have some ideas of what to do, but I’m not sure if I long for it as a happy ending or not. It has nothing to do with the fact Paige is based off a real person in my life. I, in fact, put a lot of my friends in my stories, only to have them die. Sorry, I guess, not really… So, I’m not sure how this story is going to end or where it will end up. I may, and I have given this a lot of thought, write a few different ending and post them here, but I don’t know. All I can say is keep reading.

P.S. The song  Affection by Cigarettes After Sex is growing to be the theme of this story. I do normally have an idea of some song or poem to tie with my stories. Anyways, check out the song.)
